Students of all ages are welcome – adults, children and young people, beginners to advanced students – all are encouraged to discover the enchanting world of music.

From her years as a professional musician (in all three instruments), Anne provides thorough preparation for AMEB exams at all levels, as well as instrumental tuition for relaxation and enjoyment. Students receive a well-rounded musical education, developing their instrumental technique alongside aural and sight-reading skills, musical knowledge and understanding, and an immersion in the music itself and how to interpret and understand it – all within a relaxed, friendly and encouraging atmosphere.

Background

Dr Anne Morris studied piano with Alexander Sverjensky at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, and viola and violin with Robert Pikler and John Gould at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music. She continued violin and viola studies with Alex Todicescu, and Nicholas Logie in the UK.

She has an extensive professional background performing in chamber music, orchestral playing and as a soloist.

She is also an experienced educator, with a background in Steiner education as well as graduate and postgraduate degrees in music education and sociology.

Amongst Anne’s many enthusiasms is the awareness that music provides a wealth of development opportunities for children and adults. Learning and playing music opens new pathways in the brain, increasingly develops fine and broad motor skills and coordination and contributes to a rich and rewarding emotional development.

Testimonials

I have taken on some of Anne Morris's pupils for a short time while Anne was away overseas, and have been very impressed with the high standard of their playing. Anne's care to impart a thorough understanding of musical style and interpretation, along with her insistence on their technical development is second to none.

Anne Morris has taught my 11yr old daughter violin for over 1yr. Anne is a brilliant violin teacher who shows a genuine interest in the development of my daughter. Anne is patient yet demands exact technique. She easily identifies problem areas and is able to target them resulting in my child developing great technique and a beautiful sound.

Anne also teaches two of my daughters piano. Anne systematically works through the AMEB syllabus, consistently developing technique and musicality, building the foundation for my children’s continued study of the piano. Anne listens attentively and addresses my concerns about my children’s playing. She is a wonderful and dedicated teacher.

Robyn Lenn, OAM

As a violinist I regularly play chamber music with Anne Morris where she has the ability to be the first violinist, violist or pianist.

I much admire her technical facility on these three diverse instruments, but most of all I admire her musicality and in depth knowledge of the music we are rehearsing.

Anne has a gentle and humorous approach to imparting her ideas. This makes her an ideal teacher for all age groups.

Robyn Sarajinsky (former member of the Sydney Symphony Orchestra)

Having learnt other instruments from the age of 10, I started learning violin as an adult. When I was at about 6th grade standard, I took monthly lessons from Anne over a period of about two years, during which I drove from Canberra to Bundanoon for the lessons. Anne provided a combination of great attention to detail in both intonation and technique with an intelligent approach to interpretation and performance. These lessons led me to change the way I approach a piece of music as well as my method of practice. During this period I felt my intonation accuracy and tonal quality improved markedly. During lessons, Anne would pick up weaknesses in my technique and provide useful ways of practising to overcome the problem. Her meticulous insistence on correct intonation highlighted some inaccuracies of intonation in my playing and helped me to listen to my own playing to ensure greater accuracy. I feel that overall my standard of playing and quality of tone and intonation increased substantially during the period I was learning from Anne. I would happily recommend Anne as a teacher to anyone interested in improving their overall violin technique.
